Germany WILLE  This stand alone electromechanical test apparatus is a robust construction device including of high-quality mechanic and electronic components which produces repeatable test results and the quality makes it suitable for research and also usual test applications.



The device gives the possibility to perform tests on different sample sizes to100mm.It applies vertical and horizontal independent loads by electromechanical actuators which enables each axis to be controlled in displacement (strain or velocity) mode as well as load control. The main advantage of device is an accurate testing of soil parameters without tilting and friction between shear test components. The high quality and low friction double linear guides used to ensure strength and alignment without tilting in normal and shear directions. The normal stress and the shear stress are closed loop controlled by an electromechanical drive system.


The cylindrical sample is mounted inside a rubber membrane and positioned inside a confining polished low friction brass rings (optional membrane with wire-mesh is also available), therefore the horizontal diameter of sample remains constant (constant section area) while the vertical settlement during consolidation is permitted. The shear stress is performed by horizontal movement which applies at the bottom of the sample relative to the top of it.


Two porous discs are located on top and bottom of the sample and two porewater ports at top and bottom gives the possibility to saturate the sample. It is recommended to configure a set-up of 2.5kN load configuration to comply with ASTM D6528-07standard. GEOsys software in combination with this unit performs all your tests automatically and without operator assistance during the test period.

Static Simple Shear Apparatus (ASA TYPE)

The Simple shear Apparatus is an automated apparatus with small footprint and is suitable for Simple / direct shear tests up to 100 mm specimen size with fully operation stand-alone via front panel and hardware buttons or directly with software. The device has two electromechanical loading units includes of stepper motor and gearbox which applies normal stress and shear stress on sample with closed  loop control function. This compact device eliminated the manual loading for dead weights or pneumatic version which needs air pressure for operation.

This ASA model has a double cross bar for performance of tests and  result of frictionless tests. This function enable device to get upgraded with different test jigs and inserts to run below tests with high accuracy: • Uniaxial direct Test  • Direct Shear Test  • Soil triaxial Test  • Oedometer- Consolidation Test


The main advantage of device is an accurate testing of soil parameters without tilting and friction between shear test components. All above functions makes it a unique device for research applications. The electromechanical drive with high resolution and closed loop control rate generates closed-loop strain and stress controlled static axial load and strain and in addition stress-controlled shear forces.


The Apparatus includes of two Calibrated high precision load transducer with integrated amplifier for measuring axial normal stress and shear stress with Accuracy class 0.1% and resolution of 0.1 N. It has also two precision vertical displacement transducer and shear displacement transducer with Accuracy class of 0.1 %, resolution of 0.001 mm and required travel range of the customer.

Simple Shear Jig

The type of the porous discs depends on sample types and stress conditions which can be applied on sample. There is different availability for porous discs with different roughness and surface i.e. plane, grooves, ridges and embedded pins. Please note that our standard offer includes of sintered plane disk, please select your desired type of porous disc at time of quotation.

The test set up jig is comprising of:

Low friction sample slip rings (Teflon coated)

1 off bottom plate with stainless steel porous plate and twporewater connections for saturation and flushin

1 off Top cap, parallel-guided, with two porewate connections for saturation and flushing; free from tilting with incorporated stainless-steel porous plate

2 off Stainless steel porous discs with embedded pin

Adjustable Support Frame

The aim of design and manufacturing of the adjustable support frame is to reduce the sample disturbance as much as possible(This item is not included in standard delivery and ordered separately). The test kit fixes to the base pedestal and then the main part of the kit which is two arms connect to the top cap. Finally, the kit will be assembled to the main machine and after arrangement of the vertical actuator, two arms will be released, and the kit will be di assembled from the machine.

Specimen Preparation Kit

The two-part split former is used to enable rubber membrane to be held tightly against the confining rings when vacuum is applied during sample preparation.

Note: Reinforced membrane with wire-mesh (NGI type) is also available on request.

The operation of the device requires the direct input of numerical values besides the use of the function keys. The control element made by Siemens Company is an advanced control panel which allows the user to enter the numerical values and control the system by other function keys easily. You need just to enter the values and press the run Key to start the operation.

The operator panel gives the user access to all functions in the operation and service menu. This enables the user to start and run the pump as well as conduct calibration if needed. These controls are instinctive and simple to use. All functions, such as actual status, flow rate and information on the pressure pumping ramp can be seen on the LCD display on the front of the device.

GEOSYS Software

GEOsys is a multi-functional and modular controlling and data acquisition software in Windows. It allows for the simple programming of complex user defined test sequences via structured Windows instructions on a graphi cuser interface.

GEOsys utilizes a flexible, programmable system that controls test appliances that coordinate various test operations. The flexible operating panel provides tools to configure the appliance,  editors to carry out load procedures, and functions for analysis, presentations and logs. The software is designed to support a modul arstructure for the test environment so as to enable a flexible configuration and thus fulfil the specific requirements of the company.


The important key feature of this software is the ability to allow users to simply and freely program standard or complex test sequences with structured Windows operations via a graphic user interface.

Soil Simple Shear Test Module

GEOsys is designed for closed-loop controlled static & Dynamic tests for all test applications in materialtesting, such as stress-controlled, strain-controlled, any kind of waveforms like sine, rectangle, triangle,and predefined waves. Upgrade Option

• Bender Element Test

The system is able to be upgraded by bender elements and run bender element tests with its additional accessories. Piezoelectric elements can be easily placed in top and bottom shear box of the device for performing bender element or compression wave velocity tests.

• Direct Shear Test Extension

With additional extension set, the device is able to perform Direct shear test on square samples up to 100mm x 100mmor round samples up to 100mm diameter as well. The shear box consists of lower and upper shear boxes with rigid wall either in round or square shape, adaptor loading pad, two porous plates, load piston, sample cutter, dolly and water container for saturated conditions. An additional test module for direct shear test is available which would be delivered when this upgrading is ordered. This enables your software to perform directs hear tests.


• 3-Dimensional Load Cell

There is an option to use a 3-dimensional load cell which could be positioned directly bottom of sample to measure axial and shear load on sample regardless from any friction caused by additional mechanical parts.


• Load Calibration Kit

This calibration kit is used to calibrate the normal and shear load cells in the laboratory of user. It is included of mechanical parts which connects to main device and reference load cell would connect to it and run the calibration procedure by end-user or third party.


• Local Shear Strain Measurement

This upgrading option is using two LVDT which are directly mounted on top and bottom of pedestal and enable to measure local shear strain measurement (double method).This is an additional shear displacement measurement with higher accuracy than the LVDT one which is located on the side of machine. Both LVDTs are mounted on a bracket connected directly to the pedestal. The LVDT upgrade is available for all sample sizes.


• Temperature Controlled System

The dynamic simple shear apparatus or direct shear apparatus has the possibility to be upgraded to run testing under temperature controlling for variety range of temperatures from -25 ° C to +100° C. This upgrading need different accessories/ components depends on the main system including of hardware and also software. Due to the PC-control of temperature unit, any kind of temperature test sequences can be performed.
